The sad trend of political assassinations and assassination attempts that opened the turbulent year of 2024 is gaining momentum. Sometimes it seems as if the world is actually moving backwards, once again approaching the hot summer of 1914 when the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo became the trigger for World War I. The year of 2024 also proved to be rich in tragedies of this kind. After the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo and the shooting in Pennsylvania when former US President Donald Trump was shot in the right ear, sad news came from Ukraine.

Former Ukrainian lawmaker and politician Iryna Farion died in Lviv on July 19, hours after she was attacked, Lviv Oblast Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said.

An unidentified man opened fire on Farion on a street in the city of Lviv around 7:30 p.m. the same day and fled. Law enforcement officers are trying to identify and arrest the assailant.

Reports of Farion’s death came shortly after she underwent surgery at the hospital. Farion was in a coma.

“Unfortunately, despite all the doctors’ efforts, they failed to save Iryna Farion,” Kozytskyi wrote on Telegram.

Iryna Faryon was one of the most radical Ukrainian nationalists and was known for her campaigns…
