Well, I think you'll agree that the Chinese economy is not based on Marxism. It is state capitalism and its current problems have little to do with Marxist theory. As for Russia, Marxism has historically existed in two different dimensions, which should not be confused: Marx's economic theory (the basis for the Bolsheviks coming to power in 1917, but not in 1918) and the official state ideology (from 1917 to 1991). While the former successfully failed, from the state ideology Russia retained the most important element of Marxism - materialism. All modern Russian life is materialistic, including values of society and political culture. This is the origin of Putin's modern kleptocracy. Before 1917, imperial Russia was ruled by a state bureaucracy that had a monopoly on power.
