Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his New York base in Trump Tower on Friday. Their surprise meeting lasted less than one hour but already caused a media hype. The Republican said it was time to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Donald Trump repeatedly criticized the Ukrainian leader on the campaign trail, and a meeting between the two politicians had seemed unlikely until hours before. The former US President is known for his good relationship with Vladimir Putin and supports a “fair deal” between Ukraine and Russia.

During their meeting, Zelensky said he thought they had a “common view that the war has to stop and Putin can’t win,” adding that he would discuss details of his “victory plan” with Trump.

Donald Trump seemed oblivious to past disagreements and insisted that he had a very good relationship with Zelensky.

“I also have a very good relationship as you know with President Putin and I think if we win [the election] we’re going to get it resolved very quickly,” he said.
