NATO Red Lines in Ukraine
And a bleak future for international security
For the first time since the beginning of the war, NATO, in a very confidential manner and without official communications, has set at least two red lines, beyond which there could be direct intervention in the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, quoting their sources. Following several public statements by French President Emmanuel Macron about his country’s willingness to send troops to Ukraine, this is further evidence of a shift in military rhetoric among NATO members.
At the moment, it should be emphasized, there are no operational plans to send military personnel, but only assessments of possible contingency plans — a real last resort — in case there is involvement of third parties in the war. But, according to La Republica, these plans are real.
100,000 troops ready for action if Putin involves other countries. Hope for a deterrence effect. And today Macron sees Xi: “Stop Moscow.”
