It's a fundamental question. Along with the other key points I highlighted in your in-depth analysis, it demonstrates the discrepancy between our perception of the war and reality.

It is not a war for Ukraine. This is not a war against Ukraine. This is not a war for Ukrainian territories. This is a war for the future world order: a new set of rules for the great powers and a new division of spheres of influence. Putin was absolutely explicit about this when he spoke at the Valdai International Discussion Club in September. The goals of the war have not changed at all since February 2022, and Russia will not stop until it achieves them or is defeated.

So the issue of long-term peace cannot be resolved by Ukraine. It is a problem for all of Eastern Europe, including Belarus and Russia. Belarus shares responsibility for the invasion and should also be included in a future peace formula. Without the pacification and peaceful transformation of Belarus and the Russian Federation, a change of political regimes in these countries and the course of their foreign policy, no just peace will be possible.
