It wasn’t the only “bright spot”. The capture of the fortress of Peremyshl in March 1915 was no less a major victory. When the Austrians surrendered, more enemy generals, officers and soldiers were captured by the Russian military than at Stalingrad in February 1943. The history of the Russian war effort in World War I was much more complex and cannot be reduced to a single successful military operation.
