I usually don't get news and analysis from social media just like you, but millions of Americans do, and these are the same Americans who voted. Social media as a source reflecting public sentiment is critical for the modern political historian. In my article I wrote about “revolution from above”, there is certainly a definition for it - major political and social changes that are imposed by an élite on the population it dominates. In my view, this definition is very close to the current situation in the US.
